Three years, three million copies, Frost Punk can quietly retire and await the succession of a sequel… still very mysterious.
Polish nugget that took everyone by surprise, Frostpunk was released in April 2018 and 11 bit studios is taking advantage of the summer slump to present the sequel... Unless the press release sent by the developer is mainly there to set the scene before Gamescom 2021 is held?

Apocalypse, extreme cold and oil
In the current state of things, we actually don't know much about this Frostpunk 2 which will, of course, capitalize on the success of the first opus. It is therefore always a question of embodying the leader of a metropolis located in the heart of an apocalyptic world where the cold reigns supreme. First change however, while coal was the basis of Frostpunk's industry, the sequel gives pride of place to oil. An evolution that "will not be to everyone's taste in this new stratified society", explains the press release.
Frostpunk 2 will also benefit from the new resources available to the studio after the huge success of the first opus. It is now a development team of 70 people and 11 bit studios announces the color: "We have the resources and talents to cover all aspects of the game, from its scope to the quality of its production and its interface. Our ambition is to do more than just a sequel. What we want to offer players is an experience that goes far beyond the original Frostpunk,” said Jakub Stokalski, co-director of Frostpunk 2.

The struggle of humans with their own nature
Jakub Stokalski also specifies that:
“Players should expect great opportunities for choice, the freedom to shape society and the city as they see fit – and live with the consequences. Frostpunk 2 builds on the conflicts of its predecessor – survival versus human values, life versus arctic frost. But above all, it adds a new layer that is present in many aspects of the game – be it politics, society or technological progress – the struggle of humans with their own nature”.
An enticing program, but we will not know more for the moment while no release date has been advanced by the studio. Frostpunk 2 will obviously be released on PC and, in order not to make anyone jealous, product pages are already active on Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store. However, we do not know if console versions are planned.
Let's finish by pointing out that 11 bit studios is taking advantage of this announcement to put a layer on the first opus: from now until Monday August 16, it is playable for free… on Steam only this time.
