FIFA 22: cross-play coming soon... but not for everyone

FIFA 22: cross-play coming soon... but not for everyone

This is not the first time that cross-play has been talked about in FIFA. But this week we got confirmation that the feature will be rolling out in the more or less near future. Alas, not everyone will be served.

Long demanded by the community, cross-play in FIFA was first mentioned in early March by insider Tom Henderson. The latter then specified that the functionality would only arrive from the next opus of the football simulation signed Electronic Arts. Finally, the American publisher spoke about it this week…with good news and bad news.

The round ball crosses borders

In an article published on the license site, the American publisher announces that cross-play will be tested “in the near future”. FIFA 5 PS22, Xbox Series X|S and Stadia players will then be able to play against each other via the Seasons and Online Friendlies modes. Alas, FIFA Ultimate Team (or FUT for short) is not concerned. The feature should only be available there from FIFA 23.

Finally, you should also know that the PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch versions of FIFA 22 will not receive cross-play either. Testing the feature will allow it to be integrated more effectively into future licensed games.
