PES 2022 could be launched on PC and consoles in the form of a free-to-play. The goal: to reform a community of players that has withered over the past decade and convince football fans to leave FIFA.

What if the next edition of the legendary Pro Evolucion Soccer, PES 2022 (or eFootball PES 2022), was available for free upon release on all platforms?

PES 2022 free, yes but…

In any case, this is what Andy Robinson, journalist for the VGC media, said on the occasion of the podcast Off the record. According to him, Konami would opt this year for a free-to-play economic model to try to revive its game. No doubt in the hope of attracting many new players while FIFA has been crushing the competition for more than 10 years now.

It does not detail the contours of this transition to F2P, but we imagine that this strategy is synonymous with efforts above all focused on multiplayer modes, the most likely to bring in money via microtransactions. It is also possible that the online modes are free but that others, such as the Masters League, symbol of the solo game on PES, can be unlocked after a checkout.

Last year, we only got one (paid) update from PES 2020 to PES 2021, with the developers preferring to focus on this year's version. Konami should express itself very quickly, the game is expected during the month of September.
