At the end of last July, a journalistic investigation reported the chaotic development of the project Skull and Bones, led by Ubisoft Singapore for eight years. Behind these difficulties, a toxic corporate culture was pointed out and is now being investigated.

While Ubisoft is the subject of a complaint for “institutional sexual harassment”, its studio located in Singapore has drawn the wrath of many employees and ex-employees whose testimonies have been traced to an organization for the defense of wage rights.

A corporate culture to improve

Shortly after the publication of the investigation conducted by Kotaku concerning the working conditions of around twenty current and former employees of the Singaporean studio, the TAFEP (Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices) was alerted on the subject.

The organization has, in fact, received anonymous reactions following various press articles pointing to the studio's salary wanderings, particularly concerning allegations of harassment, discrimination and lack of equity between employees.

It is very important that we are able to talk about these things and that we recognize what is currently happening in our sector [...] We have to start changing the way we are perceived and the way we act internally.

- Darryl Long

These new reactions thus confirm problems already identified under the era of Hugues Ricour, former general manager of the studio, namely racial and discriminatory wage disparities, sexual harassment and toxic management. Even if the studio would have taken the decision to examine the complaints on its side, the TAFEP, it, wished to carry out its investigation and could put in place sanctions if its research proved conclusive. The investigation is only in its infancy, but TAFEP is counting on the mobilization of new witnesses to unravel this affair.

Ubisoft Singapore may well be forced to implement new internal policies. Through the voice of its new director, Darryl Long, the studio is aware of the recent difficulties and that substantial work must be done within the company.
