This is what FF7 Remake would have looked like with the original camera

Production of 2020 obliges, Final Fantasy 7 Remake dusted off some aging elements from the original game including the camera. This redesigned version now opts for dynamic and more modern over-the-shoulder planes.

Still, one fan with no shortage of imagination decided to take a hell of a leap back by bringing the original fixed camera back into FF7 Remake. Nostalgia when you hold us.

FF7 Remake with the old-school camera

While familiar with the concept of demake, a practice of recreating a recent game as if it came out years ago, some imaginative fans are content simply to add a few old school touches to their favorite games. This is the case of YouTuber Final FanTV, who wanted to pay homage to the original version of Final Fantasy 7 by creating a script to find retro camera angles on FF7 Remake. He then shared a video comparing the fruit of his labor with the opening sequence of the game released in 1997.

Beyond the graphical changes, or Barret frolicking alongside Cloud rather than magically disappearing inside of him, the similarities are stark. The retro perspective does a surprisingly good job and above all highlights the fidelity of FF7 Remake compared to the source material. The video even gratifies us with some old-fashioned combat sequences with turn-based. That being said, it's not a full-fledged mod and the videographer hopes it inspires someone to make one to complete the game with that old-school camera.
