Until then insistent rumor, the development of a new game The Witcher has just been officially confirmed by CD Projekt RED.
After Cyberpunk 2077 and its upcoming expansion, the Polish studio will therefore return to the world of Geralt de Riv with “a new saga” and… a new engine!

For the moment, little information to put under the fangs concerning this new opus in the legendary action-RPG franchise of The Witcher. We must therefore content ourselves with the mention of a new saga in the open world, which will therefore probably take place without our dear white-haired witcher as the main character.
On a technical level, however, CD Projekt RED has indicated that it wants to change the engine for this new adventure. Exiting its in-house REDengine engine, the Polish studio is embarking on a partnership with Epic Games to adapt the impressive Unreal Engine 5 to open-world experiences.
The two entities are therefore entering into a new long-term partnership, since the announcement of this new game mentions future versions of the Unreal Engine, if applicable. However, CD Projekt RED wanted to clarify that its REDengine engine will still be used for the upcoming expansion of Cyberpunk 2077, in the more or less near future, and that this new The Witcher game will not be exclusive to the Epic Games Store. .
For now, that's all we know about this new entry in The Witcher saga. We bet that a lot of time will pass before knowing more. The development of Cyberpunk 2077 is indeed far from over, and the Polish studio probably does not intend to repeat the mistakes of the past with too early communication.
