Returnal goes to version 2.0: what's new?

The very good (and very demanding) return is now in version 2.0, with a new free update.

A long-awaited update, which should notably bring the “cycle suspension” backup.

Returnal passes the second!

Good news for those who have kept the Returnal game under their belt, or who were preparing to start the adventure. Indeed, Housemarque has just rolled out the game's 2.0 update, which brings various optimizations and other new features. Among these, we find the now essential Photo mode, but also a so-called “cycle suspension” function.

In version 2.0, Returnal allows you (finally!) to pause your game session, in order to resume it later. Remember that until now, it was impossible to suspend a run in progress. Note, however, that this is not a "save" function: when you pause the cycle, Returnal simply creates a single-use game pause point.

Housemarque clarifies that there are restrictions: "for example, you will not be able to create an ellipsis during boss fights, cutscenes, first person view sequences or intense confrontations which pepper the game, because we believe that certain moments of Returnal must be lived without interruption, in order to preserve the planned unfolding of the challenges”.

According to the developer, this "cycle suspension" option helps to relieve some frustrations among players, without however ousting the rogue-like spirit of Returnal. In this way, it is possible to enjoy Returnal in small game sessions, which was simply impossible until now. "The next time someone knocks on your door while you're exploring Atropos, you can pause the cycle and resume your adventure later," laughs Housemarque.

Remember that Returnal is a PS5 exclusive, and that the game has been available for a few months now. Our complete test is available at this address.
