Last January, Sony lifted the veil on the technical characteristics of its future virtual reality headset. Today, the Japanese manufacturer reveals the final design of the PlayStation VR2…

An announcement that could indicate a relatively close release for this device that will connect to the PS5.

A look anything but innocuous

It was through an article published on the PlayStation Blog that the Japanese firm lifted the veil on the aesthetics of the headset. The PlayStation VR2 is included perfectly in the range of accessories dedicated to the PS5, since it notably takes up the color code. An immaculate white covers the external surfaces, unlike the black reserved for the internal parts. All with a rounded shape that is even found on the side of the levers.

The latter, called PlayStation VR2 Sense, have an “orb” aspect supposed to represent the 360° view offered by the helmet. Sony also explains that it wants to make this object "an attractive element for the decoration of your living room". In addition, additional efforts have been made to improve ergonomics compared to the first PlayStation VR.

Really comfortable to wear?

This dear PlayStation VR2 will therefore have a wheel to adjust the distance between the player's eyes and the lens on the fly. It will also be lighter than its predecessor despite the addition of several advanced features. Finally, the iconic PlayStation symbols, which can be found on the PS5, have been placed here on the front and back bands of the helmet. The headband obviously remains adjustable.

Sony hasn't given a specific release date or announced any new games being developed for the PlayStation VR2. Only Horizon: Call of the Mountain has been shown so far. The helmet will be equipped with two 2 x 000 pixel OLED screens with a refresh rate between 2 and 040 Hz. Vibration, a motion capture system, a microphone and a jack will be directly integrated into the helmet.
