This is an announcement that will not surprise many people given the current international context. Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has confirmed the suspension of its new operations on Russian soil with immediate effect.

Barely minutes after the broadcast of the State of Play, the Japanese firm published a press release on social networks to provide an update on its activities in Russia. In recent days, many studios, publishers and manufacturers have taken sanctions against the country led by Vladimir Putin but Sony has remained surprisingly silent. We just knew that the launch of Gran Turismo 7 was canceled at the last moment.

A blow for Russian players

Thus, we learn today that SIE immediately stops its shipments of games and consoles to Russia. PlayStation Store operations are also suspended until further notice. Users can therefore no longer use the online store to obtain games, DLC or any type of content. In addition, the Japanese multinational will make a donation of up to 2 million dollars to help the victims of the war.

It must be admitted that Western companies no longer really have any interest in maintaining their activities in Russia since the means of payment Visa, Mastercard and American Express are now inoperative within the country.
