A few days before the launch of the closed betaOverwatch 2, Blizzard shares major changes to Doomfist and Orisa.

After the presentation of the new heroine Sojourn, it's the turn of the heroes of the first opus of Blizzard's FPS to display their novelties in order to correspond to the 5 against 5 format adopted by Team 4.

Doomfist becomes a Tank

Blizzard had already indicated it, but it still remained to be seen what it meant: the charismatic Doomfist, with skills greatly inspired by fighting games, will move to Overwatch 2 from the Damage category to that of Tank. His life total thus increases to 450 instead of 250.

As a result, his kit is extensively redesigned to better match his new category. His Uppercut (or Shoryuken for those close to him) is thus replaced by the ability to deploy a shield. This one will protect Doomfist and his allies behind frontal attacks. Absorbing damage with this shield will charge his Hell Jab.

This will also charge faster, but will inflict less damage, due to its passage in the Tank category. To compensate for the lack of mobility lost by the Uppercut, his Shockwave will behave like Winston's jump to give him better overall maneuverability. Hitting enemies with it will inflict damage and a slowing effect on them.

Finally, his Meteor Strike ultimate will be faster to charge, but will require more precision. In exchange, in addition to inflicting damage on opponents hit, it will also inflict a slowing effect on them.

Thus, Doomfist retains its ability to put pressure on the opposing team, in particular by slowing them down. On the other hand, it will be much less formidable, especially on its ability to eliminate opponents with 200 life points or less in one fell swoop.

Efi a recaliber Orisa

Another emblematic hero from Numbani, Orisa also sees her kit largely redesigned, while naturally keeping her place in the Tank category.

Its primary fire will now literally launch beams, shrinking in size with distance traveled. Instead of ammunition, we will now talk about overheating. Orisa will therefore have to measure herself in her shots before having to cool her barrel.

His abilities have undergone a far more profound change: goodbye to the Protective Barrier, the Hindrance and his Ultimate Supercharger ability. Instead of her usual abilities, she will now wield different javelins.

The Energy Javelin ability will be used, for example, to stun a hit target and push it back. A minor change from Hinder, but one that will somewhat reduce his ability to control the opposing team.

As a replacement for her Barrier, Orisa will now be able to spin her javelin, which will destroy enemy projectiles, knock back enemies hit, and increase her movement speed. She will, however, be more vulnerable to beam weapons that her javelin cannot block. To compensate for his reduced ability to block damage, the Armor ability will grant him temporary health and allow him to fire with reduced overheating.

Finally, his new Ultimate ability will work more or less like the Obstruction and will pull enemies around an anchor, granting it the Armor effect as it passes. The anchor will charge up a devastating wave of damage that Orisa can unleash sooner if needed.

Major changes for two characters that we have now known for several years. Team 4 has worked on profoundly modifying the kits of the heroes of the first opus in order to better stick to the 5 versus 5 orientation adopted for Overwatch 2.

In the past, Blizzard had also shared the changes made to Sombra and Bastion. But we still have to discover the changes of more than twenty heroes. The experience of Overwatch 2 is in any case likely to be radically different from that of the first opus. It remains to be seen whether this long wait was really worth it or not.
