Bad news for big fans of the Megadrive, it will be impossible to get the six-key controller dedicated to the legendary SEGA console on Switch because this model is reserved exclusively for Japan.

And even if you buy it directly from Japan, there's no guarantee that the controller will work on your Switch.

A very limited impact

We thought we had all the information about the release of the Additional Pack containing 23 Nintendo 64 and Megadrive games as well as the two legendary controllers that will go on sale at the end of October. Well no. Already, as you know, we still don't know how much this attractive pack will cost in addition to the price of the Nintendo Switch online mode.

But we learned a few days ago that only Japanese players will be entitled to the six-button version of the Megadrive controller, and no one else in the world. In Europe and everywhere else, you will have to settle for the 3-button model sold for € 49,99 exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Fans and collectors are probably crying foul and they may be right, the playing comfort provided by the row of three additional buttons above the three basic buttons being considerable. But it should be noted that it will still be possible to play Streets of Rage 2, Ecco the Dolphin or even Golden Ax with the Switch Pro controller or Joy-con.
