Thanks to the release of Metroid dread, it's a whole license that has been relaunched. Indeed, the saga carried by Samus Aran saw its sales jump on all media… And this is particularly the case on the old machines of the Japanese manufacturer.
It took almost 20 long years to witness the launch of a completely new 2D Metroid. But the wait ended last week with the arrival of Metroid Dread on Nintendo Switch. This opus made the best start in the history of the franchise in Great Britain and it especially allowed to propel its predecessors to the front of the stage.
Retro consoles are popular thanks to Samus
On Twitter, Spinesparkers shared the ranking of the best-selling games on Nintendo's online stores. If Metroid Dread arrives quite logically in first position on Switch, Metroid: Samus Returns is now in third position on 3DS. But it is especially on Wii U that Samus broke the house with no less than four episodes in the top 10. We find there Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Prime Trilogy and Super Metroid.
Remember that subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online service can play Metroid (NES) and Super Metroid (SNES) at no additional cost. Finally, a remastering of the first Metroid Prime would be in preparation for Nintendo's hybrid console.
