Mateo Kovačić is a Croatian midfielder who is usually deployed in a central or box-to-box role but can play in deeper positions. He is considered a versatile midfielder, having played in different midfield positions, so it's easy to see that compared to his Liverpool counterpart – Naby Keita, Kovačić has better attacking ability.
Kovačić has been described as an excellent technician with excellent dribbling skills. His trademark is going down deep to receive the ball and then moving forward, often performing his slalom runs, which is perfectly represented in FIFA22. With 88 Acceleration, 93 Ball Control and Dribbling, as well as two Flair and Skill Dribbling Traits, every time Kovacic starts his sprint, it's nearly impossible for opposing players to regain possession of the ball. While he doesn't possess a very impressive pace, his decent physical stats seem to allow him to be much faster than his assigned attributes.
Passing is another strength of this Croatian player. With the Playmaker trait, 88 Passing, 95 Short Passing and 89 Vision, he is still the one who knows how to reach the ball from deep and ride up the pitch like a 'raging bull'. If you're looking for a CM who can distribute the ball on the pitch, don't miss Kovacic.
Speaking of Physicality, it looks like Naby Keita and Mateo Kovacic share the same stats. However, Kovacic is 5'9″ and 80kg which makes him much tougher and more resilient in a physical duel with opposing defenders or the CDM.
Nonetheless, his Shooting seems to lack something unexpected or game-changing. That's because this Croatian rarely shoots at any distance. His contribution to defense is also insignificant, although sometimes with his pace and agility he can regain possession of the ball which opens up an opportunity for a counter attack.
However, it's hard to find anyone using Mateo Kovacic as he's not suited for this game meta due to his most prominent advantages being dribbling and passing. So unless you're looking for a CM to build a Chelsea squad, Kovacic isn't a bad option for you. Otherwise, there are plenty more choices for you around the same price of 110 coins.
