Half-Life 2: an update in the shadows before the arrival of the Steam Deck

Prior to the arrival of the Steam deck, Valve has set out to bring a major update to its masterpiece of FPS what is Half-Life 2.

In any case, this is what Tyler McVicker discovered in a beta branch of Valve's cult game. This update brings important changes, such as an increased FOV or support for ultrawide and Vulkan screens, among other changes.

This discovery comes hot on the heels of Valve introducing Deck Verified, the Steam game compatibility rating system on its upcoming console. This important update of Half-Life 2 is precisely part of the desire to make it compatible with the Steam Deck. This will come through support on Vulkan's venerable FPS, a rendering API that works best on operating systems like Linux, which the console's SteamOS will use.

But this update does not stop there, as it brings changes for a better experience on PC as well. The maximum FOV is thus increased to 110, in correlation with the addition of support for ultrawide screens. Valve also took the opportunity to completely clean up many bugs that hadn't been fixed for years.

If this update is still in beta state, there is no doubt that it will soon be officially deployed. In any case, it will certainly be before the first arrivals of the Steam Deck in December of this year, for a more global release in 2022.
