No offense to some politicians, it is there, the remontada. Final Fantasy XIV, an almost stillborn MMORPG when it was released in 2010, has never been better.

During a press event to present Endwalker, the future expansion of FFXIV, director Naoki Yoshida shared some figures.

The highest grossing Final Fantasy in history

In 2015, two years after the game was (re)launched via the A Realm Reborn expansion, Final Fantasy 14 had 5 million players. Six years and a little later, they are more than 24 million.

In any case, this is where the official count, shared by Yoshida to the press at the start of the week, ended. A figure that makes you dizzy, and which confirms that Square Enix's MMORPG has enjoyed an insolent magnetism for more than a year.

“You all know how difficult things were for us with the original Final Fantasy 14, confided the director. Since then, we have been able to turn the stock into one of the biggest contributors to our company's profits”. A somewhat cold way of presenting things, which nevertheless supports the fact that the MMORPG is indeed the most profitable Final Fantasy of the license inaugurated in 1987 on the NES.

A ten-year plan for players… at least!

"There are news that make the smile", as the poet said. And this one gives wings to Square Enix. "Going forward, we will spare no expense to ensure this game continues to be enjoyed by our players."

And the arrival of Endwalker, which already promises to be major in the progression of the MMORPG plot, will not mark an end. Far from there. In fact, IGN is reporting that Naoki Yoshida has spanned the next ten years of Final Fantasy XIV. Suffice to say that Square Enix sees wide.

A honeymoon which is therefore not about to end for the Japanese publisher, even if intruders seem to invite themselves to the party. At the end of September, Amazon Game Studios released New World: an MMORPG particularly well received by players, to the point of having already won over nearly 2 million.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker will be released on November 23 on PC, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
