Spending most of his career playing for a Manchester United that was a far cry from the dominating juggernaut we knew in the days of Sir Alex Ferguson, the Northern Irishman has always displayed magnificent technique and an eye for for goal as a right and left winger, scoring 179 goals for the club, helping them win two league titles and a European Cup in 1968, the same year he won the coveted Ballon d'Or .
His well-documented drinking problem meant that Best had certainly failed to realize his true potential as a footballer, a heartbreaking thought considering the heights he reached regardless.
Leaving the Red Devils aged just 29, Best became more concerned with partying than performance on the pitch, setting off on a football tour that saw him play in South Africa, the United States, Scotland and in the lower divisions of England, going all the way up to the fourth division.
In any case, at the height of his career, Best will be remembered for dominating United's right wing, wearing the now iconic number 7 shirt on his back, with the Squad Building Challenge celebrating that moment in his career.
