In the technical test build ofElden Ring, a dataminer discovered a cut mechanic from the final game with its own questline.

As FromSoftware has accustomed us to in its latest souls-like, this mechanism imbued with mystery asked us to be curious and attentive while browsing its vast open world.

Try dream, but hole

We owe this discovery to Lance McDonald, who dug deep into the technical test build released four months ago. In it, he met a non-player character named Monk Jiko.

This one doesn't appear anywhere in the final game, and that's a shame. He indeed tasks the future lord of Elden with capturing dream mist from peacefully dozing creatures in the game's vast open world.

For this, it was necessary to locate said mist escaping from the heads of the creatures concerned and capture it with a crystal ball given by Jiko. Bringing this mist back to him allowed us to obtain an item called Dream Brew.

This item could then be given to other non-player characters to unlock new dialogue and gain their sympathy. Indeed, this Brew makes them sleep as peacefully as the creatures whose dreams have been captured.

Eventually, Jiko would reward us with a Brew for our character. Lance McDonald, however, was unable to complete this quest. We bet that this could have taken us to a more dreamlike part of the game, with its share of adventures.

In the final version as we know it, unfortunately, all of this is just that: a mere dream haze…
