New whirlwind in the development of Dragon Age 4. We learn today that its creative director, Matthew Goldman, has just left BioWare.

Rebooted in 2017, the RPG was last shown in December 2020. The wait may be long for fans, since its release should not take place before 2023.

Another big departure for BioWare

The departure of Matthew Goldman, veteran of BioWare, should not help matters. Arriving at the studio in 1998, he first worked as an artist on games like MDK 2 and Baldur's Gate 2 before moving on to art director. A position he held on Jade Empire and on the various opuses of the Dragon Age saga. When EA decided to restart development of Dragon Age 4 from scratch in October 2017, Goldman was named creative director of the franchise, whose future will now be written without him.

His departure was announced to BioWare employees in an internal email obtained by the Kotaku site. The general manager of the studio, Gary McKay, wants to be reassuring: “We have mutually agreed to separate, and today will be his last day. We understand that Matt's departure has an impact on you and the development of the game. Rest assured that our commitment to making a high quality Dragon Age game has not wavered, and we will not release a game that is not not up to BioWare standards,” he wrote.

The new creative director for Dragon Age 4 has yet to be named. Matthew Goldman adds to the list of BioWare veterans who have packed up in recent years, such as Casey Hudson, Mark Darrah, Mike Laidlaw and David Gaider.
