Faced with the upsurge in PSN account hacks in Japan, the official PlayStation Twitter account on the archipelago invites users to activate the Double authentication.

Now in effect on most websites, two-factor authentication (or 2FA) allows you to add a layer of protection to your account by asking the user to enter, in addition to your username and password, a unique code sent by SMS.

An ongoing hacking campaign in Japan

According to the official Ask PlayStation JP account, "numerous requests from customers whose accounts have been hacked" have been received in recent weeks. Thus pushing the company to react and encourage its users to set up this famous double authentication.

If the compromise of PSN accounts seems for the moment to be only a Japanese affair, needless to remember that no one is immune. So we also recommend that you enable the feature wherever it is available. Especially if you have the annoying habit of entering the same password on all the sites on which you are registered.

To do this, nothing simpler. Log in to your PlayStation account and select the "Security" tab. Select "2-Step Verification" and follow the instructions. From now on, each time you try to log into this account from a new device, or after resetting your password, you will have to enter the unique code that you will receive by SMS.
