Call of Duty: Vanguard sortira le 5 novembre sur PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S et PC

Like last year for Black Ops - Cold War, Activision has chosen to use Warzone as a platform to formally announce the next opus of its golden egg hen: Call of Duty: Vanguard.

An 18th opus (pffiou) this time overseen by Sledgehammer Games, which will therefore be able to continue what it started in 2017 with Call of Duty: WWII. Yes, we are leaving once again for the battlefields of the Second World War.

A campaign on the menu

Written in collaboration with sci-fi author Tochi Onyebuchi (Riot Baby), Call of Duty: Vanguard's campaign will send you into battle on the frontlines of North, West, East and Pacific Africa . It is not a direct sequel to the events depicted in Call of Duty: WWII.

Sledgehammer says it will uncover “the untold stories of the multinational heroes who formed Task Force One, changing the course of history and paving the way for Special Forces as we know them. What to imagine its share of infiltration missions which will contrast with the “very big show” side of this first trailer.

The game will notably feature well-known war heroes and heroines like Lieutenant Polina Petrova, who is inspired by sniper Lyudmila Pavlichenko. Three other characters, each fighting on their own front, are also in the cast.

A substantial multiplayer mode

The other obvious part of a Call of Duty is of course its multiplayer. And Vanguard should not disappoint on this point.

If the different game modes (we hope for a return of the War mode of WWII) have not yet been revealed, we already know that we will find no less than 20 cards at launch. 16 of them being maps specific to traditional 6v6 game modes, while the other four are probably reserved for 2v2 clashes.

New: in addition to the traditional “hardcore” mode (each bullet is potentially deadly), there will also be a new game filter called “Blitz”. This one will literally overload the cards of the roster with more opponents than necessary to create situations of “pure chaos and fun”, laughs Sledgehammer.

Finally, a zombie mode (developed by Treyarch) is obviously in the game, and will allow players to continue the Dark Aether storyline started in Black Ops Cold War.

A new map for Warzone

As it did with Black Ops Cold War, Activision wants to give its Battle Royale Warzone the colors of this new opus. But what to do, when Verdansk is now frozen somewhere in the 80s?

Quite simply by inaugurating a new exclusive card. After 17 months of walking the same streets and hiding in the same forests, Warzone players will finally be able to discover new environments by the end of the year. A new card which will therefore take us to the theaters of operations of the Second World War, and on which nothing has yet been said by Activision.

Other good news: Call of Duty: Warzone will (finally) receive an anti-cheat to combat cases of cheating on the rise in recent months.

A new-old game engine

It has also just been confirmed that Call of Duty: Vanguard will run on the engine that Infinity Ward used for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), and not on a revision of an old engine used by Treyarch on the latest installment. . A news that will delight some and some when it will irritate others, as we know how much the differences in approach to gunfights between the two games could have divided the community at the passing of the torch last year.

Still, this pragmatic choice will allow Activision to standardize for good the experiences of its “canonical” Call of Duty and Warzone – designed from the Modern Warfare engine. It's good, you manage to follow?

More information is expected on Call of Duty: Vanguard, including the dates and conditions of access to its various beta phases between now and its launch on November 5.
