Who says new year necessarily says new Call of Duty on the horizon. If the identity of the episode which will be released in 2022 is almost engraved in stone, an unknown remains… Indeed, Activision could review its calendar after the difficult launch of Vanguard.

With financial performance lower than that of Black Ops Cold War launched in 2020, Call of Duty: Vanguard did not really convince Activision executives. The FPS was also received rather coldly by critics despite having a most satisfying multiplayer mode. The American publisher will quite logically try to raise the bar this year.

Towards a later release?

Insider Tom Henderson repeats it, the next installment in the saga will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. The main interested party specifies in passing that the game should only be unveiled during the summer. It is true that Activision has been taking its time for several years before launching its communication campaign. But that's not all…

Henderson explains that the disappointing sales of Vanguard could cause Activision to opt for a different release month. Because if the last Call of Duty had arrived in September, Modern Warfare II could opt for the month of October (2022). In addition, a big update to Call of Duty: Warzone should be deployed just after the launch of the next opus.
