Announced last month by Microsoft, the FPS Boost technology will benefit games published by Bethesda Softworks. And it starts today with five titles that benefit from an improved framerate.

Using the capabilities of the Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft is able to increase FPS on select games without having to go through the "development" box again. After Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs 2 and Sniper Elite 4, five major productions from publisher Bethesda Softworks are now compatible with this feature. And others should follow in the more or less near future.

Bethesda is stepping up a gear

On Xbox Wire, the American manufacturer therefore announces that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, Prey, Dishonored: Definitive Edition, Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 have just received the FPS Boost (which doubles their framerate). Microsoft also specifies that the feature is not activated by default on Xbox Series X. Indeed, it requires more graphics resources and drops the resolution on the two Fallouts. It must therefore be activated manually via the dedicated menu.

Thus, on a compatible title, it is necessary to go to the “Manage the game” section to activate or deactivate the FPS Boost and Auto HDR. Remember that these five Bethesda games are directly included in the Xbox Game Pass. It is therefore not mandatory to buy them to enjoy the best framerate.
