Battlefield 2042: DICE backpedals on 128-player maps

In an attempt to save what can be saved for Battlefield 2042, DICE has split a blog post to share ways to improve, following feedback from the community.

The Swedish studio is therefore preparing to revise its great ambitions sharply downwards, since the maps with 128 players have been particularly criticized by the Sans-Patries.

The war of the future on a small scale

While DICE's latest FPS is in a critical situation, after a chaotic launch and a recent petition asking for a refund for a game that is still far from finished, the studio has chosen to put things back on track to get a better start. Following feedback from the community, a general consensus was reached on the fact that “bigger is not necessarily better”.

The main criticisms of maps at 128 are that players feel like they are playing a walking simulator rather than a Battlefield. The path to the objectives was often too long, and so many fighters on the counter made engagements chaotic and difficult to read. And that's not to mention the glaring performance problems encountered on these maps, some of which have not yet been corrected.

So DICE shared some thoughts and map redesigns to make one of Battlefield 2042's major additions… less major, but more appreciated. This will notably involve relocating the objective points on the maps that have already been released, as evidenced by one of the examples shared by the Swedish studio.

Another avenue for improvement: proposing maps on a much smaller scale for the next Seasons… when they arrive. Remember that the first Season had to undergo a heavy postponement in order to correct the urgent problems of a game almost on the verge of drift.
