Battlefield 2042: big changes to come and massive patches promised

Just under a week after a tumultuous launch, Battlefield 2042 is about to receive many changes and fixes that the community has been clamoring for.

For their latest flagship FPS, DICE and Electronic Arts have indeed launched the battle after a massive review-bombing that led the game to be one of the least well received on Steam as on Metacritic.

Urgent Care

Shortly after its release, Battlefield 2042 received a first patch aimed mainly at mitigating latency issues in game, especially in modes with 128 players. For many, a drop in an ocean of far more serious problems.

So much so that DICE and Electronic Arts split a massive blog post announcing the upcoming changes. Thus, a second update should be expected tomorrow, and a third even more substantial in December.

The second update will aim to fix important balancing issues or blocking bugs strongly criticized within the Battlefield 2042 community:

  • Overall spread reduction for firearms, to fix a bug primarily targeting assault rifles, but also improving the situation with single shots or short bursts at medium and long range;
  • Increased the vertical recoil of the now hated PP-29, which should therefore be much less formidable outside of its normal range;
  • Raise fallen soldiers should work in most situations, especially when a soldier's body is against some wall or object;
  • A spawn protection system will make its debut;
  • Hovercraft and Nightbird Helicopter should be significantly less dominant and terrifying to infantry;
  • Other minor but essential corrections which will be fully detailed in a patch-notes expected during the day.

Unfortunately, a better scoreboard, better squad management or voice chat may have to wait a little longer.

Sorting area

When these urgent concerns are hopefully fixed, DICE will look into a third substantive update due in December, in which we should expect, among other things:
  • A clearer and easier to use Collection menu;
  • Smoother “Report a Player” functionality;
  • More accurate and reliable matchmaking, especially regarding cross-play;
  • A better balanced account progression thanks to weekly missions;
  • A control system with better controlled monitoring;
  • Many improvements to the visual rendering, both on consoles and on PC;
  • More than 150 adjustments on the different maps of the game;
  • Adjustments to Portal, Hazard Zone, Rush, and Conquest modes;
  • A more complete HUD, in particular with the display of medics within range once on the ground, a life bar for vehicles or enemies when they are in line of sight;
  • Many adjustments for the Homeless, weapons and gadgets.

However, this is only a very brief summary of the wave of changes to come with this third update. To learn more about some of the elements announced by DICE appearing there, go to the dedicated blog article on the official Battlefield 2042 website, cited in source below.
