After Microsoft, PlayStation also wants to add ads to its games

The arrival (or return) of advertising in certain games is likely to be a central subject in the coming weeks. Indeed, Sony Interactive Entertainment is in turn looking into the subject.

Microsoft recently made headlines when the Business Insider site told us that the American giant was considering including advertising in the free-to-play games available within its ecosystem. And it didn't take long for the competition to come in turn to add its stone to a building that may not make everyone happy.

Just more of the same

It is once again Business Insider who declares that PlayStation also plans to integrate advertisements into free games. Like the American manufacturer, Sony explains that it wants to offer developers a new way to monetize their free-to-play(s). The Japanese firm would like to ensure that the player has the impression that advertising is an integral part of the game. Advertisements could be placed on elements of the decor (panels, posters on the walls, etc.), and others, when they are viewed, would allow the player to obtain rewards such as exclusive skins.

At present, Sony is still thinking about how to finance such a system as well as which brands will be able to buy these advertising spaces. This initiative, which seems for the moment confined to free games, will undoubtedly be strongly criticized if it materializes.
